Washington, : Adjacent to China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and India, Gilgit Baltistan is a strategically located region. Previously known as the Northern Areas, it is under the direct control of Islamabad. Unfortunately, it is neither independent nor does it have a provincial status. Pakistan however wants to sell it off to its neighbour & close ally China. This will help China gain access to Central Asia that is rich in oil & gas.
